Foundation Phase (Years 7 and 8)
During Foundation Phase, our students in Years 7 and 8 are provided with the support they need to transition into high school while receiving encouragement to explore their interests and discover how they personally learn best.
Best of Both Worlds
At Faith Lutheran College, we see Foundation Phase as an opportunity to combine the very best of both primary school and high school – providing our youngest minds with the opportunity to grow and explore, while having a devoted support team by their side.
In each year level, there is a dedicated team of specialist teachers who only teach in their designated year level and learning spaces. Each year level is led by a curriculum leader who oversees each student’s academic progress and a pastoral leader who monitors their wellbeing.
Team Teaching
The teaching teams also have dedicated planning times, which means they are able to focus completely on their year level and understand each student’s individual learning requirements.
This structure affords the Foundation Phase teams enormous freedom in deciding how to run their day, without having to leave to teach other year levels, which is often the case in most secondary schools.
Freedom and flexibility for learning
Our students benefit from the Foundation Phase format because it provides the opportunity to find flow in their workday through a newfound flexibility in their timetable.
The focus of Foundation Phase is on building literacy and numeracy skills, the foundation of their learning for years to come.
Our educators teach in teams, providing students with the opportunity to choose the setting and support they require for each particular task.
This, combined with an additional focus on Project Based Learning (PBL) and design thinking, sets up our Years 7 and 8 students for success during the remainder of not only their school years but also for their post-school pathways.
