Faith Lutheran College has been formally recognised as a gateway school for Health and Community Services, becoming the first school in the Ipswich/Lockyer Valley region to offer vocational education and study pathways in Health with direct links to industry.
The announcement, which comes as a result of a formal partnership with Axiom College – a leading provider of qualifications and certifications in the Health sector – identifies Faith as the only secondary education institution in the area that offers school-based qualifications in Health, Nursing and related Community Services that will allow students to gain direct entry into both the workforce and higher study programs
As a Gateway School for Health, and the exclusive partner for Axiom College in the West Moreton area, Faith students will be provided with access to a range of opportunities, including campus visits to Australian Catholic University, Griffith University, Southern Cross University and the University of Southern Queensland; the ability to apply for direct entry into Southern Cross University after completing a Certificate III level qualification at Faith, and mock interviews with program partners including MEGT and National Disability Services to assist with job readiness.
The partnership with Axiom College will also provide an avenue for Faith to access a broader range of equipment and training opportunities to support students as they complete their VET qualifications, and allow them to develop strong ties to organisations and providers within the Health industry, promoting a broad range of pathways into work or tertiary education. To celebrate the announcement, our Senior Health classes were joined by Mr. Barry Dowling from Axiom College, who helped to present each student with a brand new set of Faith-branded scrubs, and spoke at length about the range of opportunities that would become available over the course of the year and into the future.
“Students will be able to access a range of state-of-the-art equipment donated by local hospitals, much of which would be beyond the capacities and budgets of most secondary schools; a simulation centre which allows them to train under industry-standard conditions; and the opportunity to pursue not just a career pathway in Health, but a career pathway in Health that incorporates first class training and a degree of job readiness that holds them in good stead for taking the next step beyond high school.”
“This partnership is unique – you won’t find this equipment or these facilities at other schools, and the opportunities to link to industry are second-to-none.”
Faith Lutheran College is proud to lead the way in the provision of Health certification opportunities, and, thanks to the hard work of our Health Trainer and Assessor, Ms. Janelle Newton, and our VET coordinator, Ms. Kate Munro, the future of those students considering a career in Health services has been given a proper “booster shot” through a new industry partnership that will benefit many cohorts into the future.
