Year 7 student, Madleine Yeo recently took part in the annual Toowoomba Eisteddfod. Performing on piano, Madleine enjoyed great success, gaining a first in the All-Age Grade 3 Piano section, and a Highly Commended for an Australian Composer piece.
In addition to her solo success, Madleine also gained a second place prize as part of a duet performed with Lulu Leung – an extra-impressive result considering both students were among the youngest to compete in their respective categories.
Teacher/Music Tutor for both students, Marie Haak, was pleased with the result, with the adjudicator’s report providing feedback that indicated the duo played with “a very musical texture” and “beautifully co-ordinated quavers”.
The Toowoomba Eisteddfod, which invites entrants from across the region to compete in a range of performing arts including dance, vocal and piano, is a marquee event on the region’s competitive performing arts calendar. Faith’s Dance Troupes are regular competitors in the event, but as our Performing Arts curriculum grows, increasing numbers of our instrumental students, like Madleine, will be encouraged to compete.
Faith Lutheran College would like to congratulate Madleine on her success at the Toowoomba Eisteddfod, and we hope to continue hearing her beautiful piano on campus for years to come!
