As our current Year 10 students move into their Senior Years, it is vital that parents/caregivers, staff and the students themselves are engaged in the process of exploring post-school pathways, selecting subjects and making decisions about future goals and ambitions.
Student Education and Training (SET) Planning for our current Year 10 students is now underway, with meetings to discuss each individual student’s pathway through their Senior Years scheduled to take place on Tuesday 7 September and Wednesday 8 September (Week 9).
These meetings are vital in ensuring that the College, parents and students are working together in partnership to achieve the best outcome for each learner — with each student needing to complete some tasks in order to ensure that they come prepared for the discussions that will take place.
In preparation for this important period, parents and caregivers of current Year 10 students are encouraged to ensure that they have engaged with recent communication from Director of Teaching and Learning, Mr. Darron Skinner-Martin, regarding Subject Selection and SET Planning Meetings, which was sent out on Friday 20 August 2021.
This communication contains a range of important information, including advice on:
- Curriculum
- Subject Selection
- Preparation for SET Planning
- Booking of SET Planning Meetings
Please ensure that you have read through this information, and are encouraging your students to complete the tasks required in preparation for SET Planning (outlined below).
Preparing for SET Planning Meetings (Students)
In order to prepare for the upcoming SET Planning Meetings (which are compulsory prior to students finalising subject choices), students are required to:
- Engage with the Senior Years Subject Advice Video and 2022 Senior Curriculum Guide
- Enter their subject selection preferences via WebPreferences (must be completed by 20 August)
- Complete the Morrisby Career Assessment (each student has been issued with their login details)
Booking in for SET Planning Meetings (Parents/Caregivers)
To book a time to attend a SET Planning Meeting, parents/caregivers are advised to log in to Parent Lounge, and follow the same process used to book in for Parent-Teacher Interviews. SET Planning Meetings will take place either online, through Microsoft Teams, or in-person at the College (at the discretion of the parent/caregiver), and both students and a parent/caregiver are required to attend. Bookings will open on Wednesday 25 August.
Final Subject Selection
Following SET Planning Meetings, students will make their final choices regarding subjects for 2022, with these choices being submitted by Friday 10 September.
If you, or your Year 10 student(s), have any queries, questions or concerns about this process, please contact Mr. Skinner-Martin via email, or by phoning the College on (07) 5466 9900.
Thank you for your assistance and cooperation as we work in partnership to formulate plans that will help our students to achieve their post-school goals, and we look forward to discussions with all parents and students in Week 9.
